  if abraham was alive today and as a jehovah witness would the elders have to report him to the social services if he heard god's voice telling him to sacrifice his son or would they just hush it up?

  i remember as a child being impressed by several older 'brothers' who were well educated and articulate.

  we had guys with degrees and one had a ph.d in some branch of physics - a professor.

  now you know as well as i do that that level of education was, and still is, mightily discouraged by the wt but these guys had managed it somehow.. as an impressionable kid it put 'the truth' on a more secure footing for me, after all if these intelligent men could believe .

  There is intelligence and there is common sense.When I went along with the Witless beliefs I always had it in the back of mind that I would go along with it until I found it to be wrong.One day common sense kicked in ,it took me awhile to disprove their doctrines but all the while that little voice of common sense kept telling me that it was a load of baloney but I just couldn't demonstrate it. Before the internet it was very difficult to identitfy precisely the trickery that the Wacktower had used over the decades.

  I think the high Witless turnover rate is down to the above facts, people go along with it for so long until they learn that the relgion is not all that it is made out to be at the the beginning of a persons interest in it. We have all bought something at sometime or another and afterwards realized what a load of rubbish.Just the same with religion; snares and rackets anyone?

  To me it is similar to a magicians stage act ,until you realise how it is done you are fooled by it.

  a post triggered this memory for me and perhaps for you.

  i don't know if this was widespread or a local thing.. john fitzgerald kennedy was the president of the united states... he was also catholic in faith.

  it was wide believed at the time and in our location that he would institute programs against the wtbts that (could) leave to armageddon.

  I remember the special Watchtower and Awake attacking the catholic church ,it came out just before the American election in which JFK won.I had only just started going to the meetings and was in my late teens .I asked a brother why the special mags and he told me it was because of the catholic JFK and how if he got elected he would shut down the Watchtower Organisation.The witlesses were always coming up with fairy stories like that.I do remember wondering if it would affect the outcome of the election.

  KurtBethel visits Beth Sarim!

  sunday, may 18th was my big day.

  i decided to go to beth sarim, home of the princes and ancient worthies.

  so i loaded up the truck and rolled out, wondering what do you do when you meet someone so ancient that the roman empire was a mere twinkling in jehovah's eye.

  Thanks for that Kurt ,nice pics.Expected a larger place and more sumptious ,maybe the ancient worthies would have asked to see what other properties were available in the area more inkeeping with their grand status. They would have expected that to be their outhouse and would have a looked for something on the lines of Xanadou from Citizen Kane.

  What did the plaque say on the front wall near the entrance under the lamp. In the UK we have blue plaques on famous buildings which tell of its history for instance " King David stayed here for three months during the Great Depression ", you know that sort of thing.

  Does the building stand out from the rest of the properties or is it like all the rest?
